Who is Lucien and what is on his lectern?

Welcome to my new blog, Lucien's Lectern. I have started this blog as part of a class I am taking for my Masters in Library and Information Science that covers children and youth literature.  I'll be reviewing some of the books that are on our reading list.  I'm excited, since this is giving me an opportunity to explore all sorts of new books I have never read.

Where did I get the title for my blog?  Well, I am a huge Neil Gaiman fan, and Lucien is the librarian in charge of the books found in the Dream King's library. If you aren't familiar with The Sandman, perhaps you might want to explore that series of graphic novels. Although they are comics, they are aimed for an adult audience and contains a decent amount of sex, violence, and graphic material.

Lucien is a bookish fellow, cataloging and curating all the books that have never been written, but have been dreamed of. He has heart and is courageous and loyal.  I'm sure his lectern is filled with all sorts of interesting books to read.

I'll be reading and reviewing books that are more appropriate for children and young adults. Please come visit as I share some of my thoughts on various titles.  For the time being, I perhaps I can at least point you to some of Gaiman's books that are better fit for younger readers. For the smaller kids, Gaiman collaborates with long-time friend Dave McKean in the picture books The Day I Swapped My Dad for Two Goldfish and The Wolves in the Walls. For slightly older kids, he has Odd and the Frost Giants. And for children even older still are the wonderfully creepy books Coraline and The Graveyard Book.

I'll be writing here every now and then.
